This Centre of Learning was established in 1971 by H. H. Shrimad Sudhindra Tirtha Swamiji, 20th Mathadhipati of Shri Kashi Math Samsthan, Varanasi, who attained Mahasamadhi at Haridwar on 16 January, 2016.

The activities of the Institute cover a vast area in the field of Indology and all other oriental branches of study and learning. Founded in the revered memory of H. H. Shrimad Sukrtindra Tirtha Swamiji, the 19th Mathadhipati of Shri Kashi Math Samsthan, this Institute is known as an invaluable gift to Kerala on behalf of the Gowda Saraswat Brahmin community. H. H. Shrimad Samyamindra Tirtha Swamiji, the present Mathadhipati of Shri Kashi Math Samsthan is now the Chief Patron of the Institute.

The University of Kerala and Mahatma Gandhi University have recognised the Institute as a Research Centre for Sanskrit. The Institute has a vast Reference Library occupying all of its first floor as well as a unique Manuscript (Palm-leaf) Repository.
